August 3 marks National Watermelon Day and City Tap House in Fort Point is getting behind the movement by hosting a day-long “Watermelon Smash” on Saturday, August 5, to celebrate summertime’s favorite giant, juicy fruit.


A lineup of fruit-forward watermelon flavored craft beers will make an appearance on their tap lines including Hell or High Watermelon from the originators at 21st Amendment Brewery, Anderson Valley Brewery’s Briney Melon Gose and Ballast Point Brewery’s Watermelon Dorado.  Other festive thirst-quenchers will include spicy watermelon margaritas, boozy watermelon slushies and watermelon daiquiris.
 
For those looking for a little friendly competition, the celebration will be complete with patio sprinklers, watermelon games and a hands-free watermelon eating contest which will kick-off at 1:00 pm; the fastest contestant to eat a wedge of watermelon will be dubbed the champion and will receive a City Tap House gift certificate.
