Canvas Fine Arts announces an upcoming exhibit and reception for artist Sallie Strand at the Canvas Fine Arts Gallery. The reception and an artist’s talk will take place on Friday May 3 at 7pm as part of SoWa First Fridays and ArtWeek, MA. The Canvas Fine Arts Gallery is located at 460 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118 in the historic arts district of SoWa. Free and open to the public. All are welcome.
Sallie Strand began her career first as a pastry chef, and later as a dietitian. With an artist father and an interior decorator mother, Sallie was infused with art and color from an early age. Though mostly self-taught, Sallie continues to take master classes and workshops with professional artists such as Lisa Pressman, Rebecca Crowell, Tim Hawksworth, Steven Aimone and Audrey Phil-lips.
Not surprisingly, Sallie finds many similarities between baking and painting and often uses many of those utensils to create textures through layering, mark making, and scraping. Strand’s paintings take on a life of their own. Like us, they are complicated with layers of history and emotion stored within. Some have lots of movement and energy while others are quiet and contemplative.
Sallie lives and works At Lincoln Studios in Waltham and in the summer, she also runs The Sallie Strand Gallery in the Rocky Neck artist colony area of Gloucester, MA
