The natural cycles of women's lives involve physiological, metabolic, and emotional changes that affect our overall well-being. Bone health in particular is at risk as we age, with peak bone mass formed in our 20s and declining for a host of reasons. Over 54 million Americans have low bone density, and 1 in 2 women age 50 and over will experience a fracture that is the result of bone loss.
Recent studies have shown that, practiced with certain considerations, yoga poses can help build bone mass and even stem bone loss. Other benefits include improved strength, joint mobility, and balance, which in turn reduce the risk of falling, the number one risk factor for those with osteoporosis or osteopenia.
This 4-week series will provide:
An overview of considerations and concepts for safe practice to strengthen bone and muscle improve posture and balance and reduce stress.
An application of those concepts in well-balanced practices each week to help solidify the concepts and considerations.
Whether you are a long-time practitioner or relatively new to the practice, this workshop will give you the insights, information and experience to enhance your yoga practice in the studio and at home.
Rosie Richardson is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher and Certified Yoga Therapist. She herself has Osteoporosis, a diagnosis which gave her the opportunity to research the topic and increase the intelligence with which she practices and teaches.
Cost: $80 (single class drop-ins are permitted with the permission of the instructor)
