See Yourself in Arts! Join us at the 2020 Youth Arts for Social Change Summit!
Have you ever come across the phrase “Art Imitates Life” but felt your life is rarely (or never) represented in the arts? Representation in the arts is growing but we still have so much more to do!
This year the Boch Center’s Teen Leadership Council, and the Youth Committee will be hosting the Youth Arts for Social Change Summit on Saturday February 29th from 12pm-4pm at Hibernian Hall in Roxbury’s Dudley Square. This is an exciting opportunity for teens and organizations from Boston and the greater Boston area to showcase their artistic experiences and facilitate discussions on how we can change the narrative of how different stories can be shared through the arts.
All organizations and youth will start the day together with lunch as our guest speaker explores how youth have the power to take ownership over how their stories can be shared with the world. Participants will then have the opportunity to engage in teen-led interactive workshops that focus on representation in the performing, visual and multimedia arts. Afterwards we will have the chance to see art come to life on stage with our Open Mic Session!
At the Summit, we hope to build stronger connections with youth organizations and the youth with whom we work. Our goals are to identify and intensify our messages, give youth tools to help change the narrative, increase their own agency and to create a positive change in the world.
