Historian and “Photo Detective” Maureen Taylor researched hundreds of mid-1800s photographs, searching for the faces of men, women and children who witnessed the Revolutionary War. Taylor published many of these photographs and stories in her two-volume series, The Last Muster (Kent State University Press, 2010). Of these individual stories, Molly Ferris Akin, a Quaker woman and Agrippa Hull, an enlisted free African-American man, represent distinct voices among those who responded to “the shot heard round the world” in Massachusetts.
Join Maureen Taylor and filmmaker Pamela Pacelli Cooper of Verissima Productions as they discuss their journey of collaboration in bringing these photographs to life using genealogical and historical research in a documentary film series, “A Revolutionary Trio: The Stories Behind the Faces” (Verissima Productions, 2018).
This special presentation will include screenings of two short films, “Molly Ferris Akin: Pacifist or Patriot?” and “Agrippa Hull: A Renaissance Freeman.” Book signing with Maureen Taylor to follow.
