ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Founded in 1997 by renowned harpsichordist and Baroque specialist Andrea Marcon, the Venice Baroque Orchestra (VBO) is celebrated as one of the world’s premier period instrument ensembles. Acclaimed for its energetic, stylistically informed performances, the VBO has captivated audiences across North and South America, Europe, and Asia.

The ensemble has performed in more U.S. cities than any other Baroque orchestra and maintains one of the most active touring schedules in Asia. Notable collaborations include extensive international tours with countertenor Philippe Jaroussky, mezzo-soprano Magdalena Kožená, contralto Marie-Nicole Lemieux, mandolinist Avi Avital, and soprano Karina Gauvin, with performances at leading festivals and venues including the Dresden Music Festival, Istanbul Festival, and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg.

Uniquely bridging past and present, the VBO also premiered Philip Glass’s The American Four Seasons, showcasing its versatility in contemporary repertoire. Under Marcon’s direction, the ensemble has delivered acclaimed interpretations of works by Vivaldi, Monteverdi, Cavalli, Handel, and Bach, while also exploring Classical-era repertoire by Haydn, Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, and early operas of Rossini. Marcon himself is celebrated for his performances of Orlando Furioso, Atenaide, Juditha Triumphans, and Alcina, including a landmark production at Moscow’s Bolshoi Theatre.

The Venice Baroque Orchestra continues to set the standard for Baroque performance in the 21st century, combining scholarly insight with breathtaking artistry.
