Music from the “greatest generation” is making its way to the Boston area when the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra returns to the Burlington Community Concert Series for a special Mother’s Day performance on Sunday, May 14, at 3:00 pm. Co-sponsored by Burlington Public Schools and the Burlington Area Chamber of Commerce, the performance will take place in the Fogelberg Performing Arts Center on the campus of Burlington High School.

The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra continues to be the most popular and sought after big bands in the world today for both concert and swing dance engagements. With its unique jazz sound, the Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time.

The present Glenn Miller Orchestra was formed in 1956 and has been touring consistently since, playing an average of 300 live dates a year all around the world. Memorable hits include “In the Mood,” “Moonlight Serenade,” and “Chattanooga Choo Choo.”

Nick Hilscher brings the music of the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra to life as both conductor and male vocalist. A native of Atlanta, his career began in his teens and he quickly became a first-rate singer of the American songbook earning the top spot of featured male vocalist with GMO and in recent years taking the baton as conductor. He has performed in venues around the world including the Hollywood Bowl and New York City’s Birdland with stops in all fifty states, Canada, Mexico, Europe, South America and Japan.

California songstress Maria Schafer is the featured female vocalist with the World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra. With a vocal style described as “luscious and intimate, possessing an emotional depth beyond her years,” her interpretation of standards, pop songs and modern jazz brings a unique sound to her music. Her consummate swing feel, likewise affection for Brazilian music, and penchant for putting a twist on pop tunes has been award-winning and has taken her to global venues for performances.

Tickets for The World Famous Glenn Miller Orchestra concert on Sunday, May 14, range between $5 and $25 and are available at www.BurlingtonTheatre.com, 781-A-FUN-TIC, [email protected] and at the box office on the day of the performance.
