"New York's sexiest literary event" (Time Out New York) slinks its way to Boston with a bona fide American poetry icon: former U.S. poet laureate Robert Pinsky. But this ain't your mama's MFA poetry reading. Inspired by the fin-de-siècle bordellos in Paris and New Orleans, The Poetry Brothel is a uniquely immersive experience that takes poetry outside the classroom and plants it in the lush interiors of a bordello, with a rotating cast of poets-in-character who share their work in "spontaneous eruptions of poetry." Of course, any true brothel needs a good cover: The Poetry Brothel's is an immersive cabaret, offering live jazz, burlesque dancers, painters and fortunetellers. This premiere event at OBERON in Cambridge will feature some of New York's favorite performers (including burlesque beauty Ginny Nightshade and aerialists The Lost Boys of Circus Solaris), along with guest readers Robert Pinsky and Steph Burt.
