Author Larry Ruttman is best known for his biographical cultural histories Voices of Brookline (2005) and American Jews and America’s Game (2013). Using the tools of oral history, he transforms interviews into short biographies, presenting them in story form as a lively conversation between the subject and the author. Larry will talk about his meetings with famous folks in both books, as well as with world class musicians in the book on music he is currently writing. Learn more and laugh too about this dynamic interplay and how to apply some of these techniques to your own family history or other project. Book sales and signing to follow. Larry Ruttman was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and has practiced law in Boston and Brookline since 1958. He was an Assistant Attorney General in the civil rights section of the Massachusetts Office of the Attorney General from 1960 to 1962. He is a Fellow of the Massachusetts Bar Foundation, the charitable partner of the Massachusetts Bar Association, and served on the Board of Governors of the Massachusetts Academy of Trial Attorneys (MATA). He was an elected Brookline Town Meeting member from 1958 to 1968, an elected Democratic Town Committee member from 1960 to 1976, and an appointed member of the Brookline Cable Trust from 1984 to 1986. He was later chosen as an interviewer for Oral History of American Music (OHAM) at Yale University. He was recently elected a Fellow of the Massachusetts Historical Society." His book, American Jews and America's Game: Voices of a Growing Legacy in Baseball, was chosen as the #1 baseball book in America for the year 2013, among many, by Sports Collectors Digest, and now adapted into a musical play, "Jews on First".
