Ritual lends a familiarity and ceremony to many types of community gatherings, both sacred and secular. Some rituals, such as the family dinner, are associated with a certain time of day. This is also true of the sacred services from many faiths, as the faithful give thanks for the rhythm of the day and the rhythm of life.


The Boston Cecilia will usher in the holiday season with a new take on the tradition of Evensong, offering a set of sacred works from different faiths and traditions to aurally illuminate the dark hours of the darkest time of year. The program will feature Trevor Weston’s stunning Magnificat for choir and organ and include works by Benjamin Britten, Igor Stravinsky, Kevin Allen, Kenneth Leighton, and Salamone Rossi.
