Imaginary Mapmaking with Emily Garfield
1-3 pm -- All ages welcome!

FREE with Museum Admission
(Free for youth 16 and under, Salem residents, and members, $12 students with ID, $17 seniors, $20 nonmembers)

With ink and watercolor, artist Emily Garfield creates intricate maps of imaginary cities. Her work is inspired by the visual language of geography as well as the fractal similarities found in nature, such as the patterns of cells and neurons. In this hands-on workshop, learn about Garfield's techniques for developing new drawings, then create your own imaginary map that explores how urban designs relate to natural patterns.

Part of the The Big Draw Festival! Join us for special programs throughout the month of October to celebrate how drawing changes lives. This year's theme is STEAM, which brings together science, technology, engineering, art and math.
