In his lifetime, Georg Philipp Telemann (1681-1767) towered in reputation: fought over by employers, idolized by musicians, praised, published and pirated everywhere. When he died at the age of 86, he must have thought his illustrious legacy was assured. 30 years later it was rubble.

The Case for Telemann confronts vestigial anti-Telemann prejudice, explores the fickle nature of fame, and takes a new look at this master-composer’s brilliant music.

Join us for a talk show about Telemann, his music, and the shifting sands of reputation from the perspectives of an art historian, a psychologist, two musicologists and a performer, with live performances by Tempesta di Mare. Following the Talkshow, stay for food and beer ($) and a performance by the choir and baroque orchestra of the Temple University Boyer College of Music and Dance.
