The 5th Annual Tackle Sickle Cell Casino Night, hosted by New England Patriots star twin brothers, Devin and Jason McCourty, is set to take place on Monday, October 28, 2019 at Royale in Boston. The event, co-chaired by Bithiah Carter, president and CEO of New England Blacks in Philanthropy and Keith Motley, professor in the College of Management at University of Massachusetts in Boston, will support Boston Medical Center’s (BMC) Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease and fellow non-profit Next Step.
Guests will enjoy a lively evening of casino games, cocktails, networking and socializing alongside their favorite Patriots players in downtown Boston. Last year, more than $300,000 was raised from the event. Proceeds support efforts around finding a universal cure and improving current treatment options for those suffering from sickle cell disease.
BMC’s Center of Excellence in Sickle Cell Disease is the largest center of its kind in New England, serving more than 500 patients annually, from newborns to adults, while Next Step empowers young people living with serious illness to create their brightest future through community, music and mentorship.
The McCourty twins’ Tackle Sickle Cell campaign was created in collaboration with the Embrace Kids Foundation. This campaign aims to educate the public and increase blood donations, as well as raise money and awareness for the fight against sickle cell disease.
New England Blacks in Philanthropy is a non-profit established in 2007 devoted to innovating black philanthropy. Carter oversees a team who provides resources to “inform, reform and transform” what it means to “Give Black.”
