“…the antithesis of stuffy, over polished dance…The intimacy lends Mateo’s dynamic choreography a raw power that is compulsively watchable…”
Boston Magazine
Experience ballet like never before with the culminating event of the season! Suspicious Spaces, three compellingly dynamic ballets by celebrated dancemaker José Mateo featuring a highly anticipated Mateo premiere.
Suspicious Spaces features House of Ballet (1993), a piece that The Boston Globe calls,”…one of Mateo’s quirkiest and most engaging works.” Follow the alluring tale of a maniacal balletomane who abducts the object of his desire, set to Alfred Schnittke’s Gogal Suite. The fast-paced, dynamic Fearless Symmetries (2008), set to John Adams’ Fearful Symmetries, features a young woman swept by the appeal of contemporary urban life and then overwhelmed by its very unpredictable forces. Be one of the first to see the premiere of the season!
More than just “going to the ballet”, Suspicious Spaces offers a thrilling live dance theater experience designed for today’s audiences. Named one of Massachusetts’ 1,000 Great Places to Visit, the stunning Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square offers an extraordinary close up view of the dancers with cabaret-style seating and cocktails during the show. See ballet in a new light and be part of the drama, passion, and beauty on stage at the spectacular performance space in Old Cambridge Baptist Church, a National Historic Landmark.
