MFA Film is thrilled to present the next wave of Sunset Cinema, a free monthly film series screened on the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston's Huntington Avenue lawn. Join us on August 9 to watch "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind," the second feature film by animator Hayao Miyazaki. The film will be dubbed in English with English subtitles.

We suggest bringing a blanket or low chair, a picnic supper, and nonalcoholic beverages to enjoy during the film. Beer, wine and snacks are available for purchase. Lawn games; live music by Cheyenne Prescott and Verale; and art-making activities begin at 6:30 pm. The film starts at sundown, around 8 pm.

Sunset Cinema is part of a series of exciting activities in the MFA neighborhood on August 9. Before the screening, head over to the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Block Party to enjoy music, stilt dancers, performance, food trucks, stone carving, gallery games, and hands-on art making inside the museum and out. From 5:30 to 6:30 pm in the Back Bay Fens, check out the Emerald Necklace Conservancy’s debut presentation of a sound and dance performance by Beau Kenyon as part of a new outdoor exhibition of fog art by Fujiko Nakaya.

Biking to the event? We'll have a free bike valet outside, set up by our friends at MassBike! 🚲

"Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" is a lush dystopian epic that is considered by many to be Miyazaki's masterwork. Set in a future world devastated by atmospheric poisons and swarming with gigantic insects, "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" is the story of a young princess whose love for all living things and passionate determination to understand the processes of nature lead her into terrible danger, sacrifice, and eventual triumph. "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind" is part of the film series "Heroic," celebrating female heroes on screen throughout the month of August in conjunction with the MFA’s exhibition "Casanova’s Europe: Art, Pleasure, and Power in the 18th Century."

Co-presented with Anime Boston and the Boston Women’s Film Festival.

Live Music Starts at 6:30
