We'll be hiking Franconia Ridge at the best time of day, during sunrise. The plan is to get to the trailhead a few hours before sunrise and reach the Little Haystack and the ridgeline via Falling Waters Trail just after twilight, where we can enjoy the change in colors as the sun rises and illuminates the mountains. After sunrise, we continue on the loop towards Mount Lafayette before descending via the Old Bridle Path and back to the trailhead. The other benefits of hiking this time of day is easy parking and a lack of crowds that would be an issue during the day on a weekend. The total distance of this hike is 8.5 miles and will be doing the loop counter-clockwise.


Due to the difficulty of this hike, you must have done a hike with at least 3,000 ft. of elevation gain recently. If you don't have any experience listed on your Ridj-it profile, please comment on what hikes you have done recently. Do not sign up you until you get approval by me if you're Ridj-it profile is bare. If you sign up without approval, you will be removed from the trip. You must also have all of the gear listed for this trip. Headlamps will be mandatory and make sure they are working prior to this hike. A portion of this hike will be done at night.

Only sign up for this hike if you're interested. Cancelling last minute or not showing up on the day of the hike without a valid reason is unacceptable (both carpoolers and non-carpoolers). By doing that, you're preventing someone else who wanted to join the trip to be able to go and can also lead to the cancellation of the entire trip. If you flake frequently without a valid reason (eg. unforeseen conflict), it will impact your ability to join future trips organized by me.
