Raids on gay bars were routine in 1969, but in the earliest hours of June 28, something different happened. When the New York City police raided the Stonewall Inn, patrons fought back. Fed up after years of harassment, the incident sparked protests that played out on the streets of Greenwich Village for days – and so, the modern LGBTQ movement in America was born. Acclaimed author of A Queer History of the United States Michael Bronski leads a fascinating talk about what led to the historic uprising and all it inspired.
