Music from the Somerville Symphony Orkestar (www.ssoband.com) and the Soggy Po’ Boys (www.soggypoboys.com).
The Somerville Symphony Orkestar (http://www.ssoband.com) redefines the modern party. It’s impossible to escape the hypnotizing rhythms of this an all-original Gyspy-Punk band. Formed in 2009, the SSO has been constantly showing New England how to dance all night with their Eastern Eurpean influenced sound. With the success of their debut album, the SSO has shared the stage with the Rebirth Brass Band, Melvin Seal and the Gerry Garcia Band, and Jack Sonni (from the Dire Straits) among others. The SSO beats Balkan music, Klezmer, Funk, and Punk into a funk-punky pulp. The complex arrangements reign in the chaos only to explode into equal parts mosh-pit and horah.
The Soggy Po' Boys (http://www.soggypoboys.com) were born on Mardi Gras, 2012. Residing in Seacoast, New Hampshire, with a repertoire of New Orleans standards, spirituals, contemporary music, and swing tunes, the Po’ Boys offer a lively blend of fun and insanity. Sure, it’s served messy, but at the heart of the mess is a sincerity for sprightly composed tunes that are accessible to absolutely anyone that hears it. Their music is enduring. It’s infectious. It’s inviting. It’s irresistible. Don’t let their birthplace fool you. The beauty of New Orleans music is that it’s celebrated and appreciated everywhere. A brass fueled swinging jazz band that will indeed stand the test of time and transcend the bounds of geographic pigeonholing.
