Join costumed living historians as they recreate the work of supplying the army. During the Revolutionary War, Philadelphian Benjamin Flower (whose portrait is on display at the Museum) commanded a group of “artificers,” soldiers who made and repaired cartridge boxes, canteens, and cannon carriages for the Continental Army. Converse with costumed interpreters about these makers and try your hand at an array of trades. Learn how shoemakers and hatmakers produced enough footwear and headgear for an army, watch as carpenters prepare blocks for soldiers’ cartridge boxes, help sew Continental Army uniforms, and meet Rebecca Flower Young, Benjamin Flower’s sister, who made flags and drum cases as a contract seamstress.
