It's not often the South Shore and North Shore unite across the vast divide of downtown Boston traffic.
But this week is one of those times, coming via the restaurant community which does so much to help their neighborhoods and their colleagues in the business.
Hospitality legend Leo Keka of ever-popular Alba Prime Steak + Seafood in Quincy Center hosts a fundraiser on Wednesday night (Sept. 18) on his huge, beautiful new roof deck to raise money for Bagel Bin Deli of Revere and to celebrate Albanian culture.
A tragic fire destroyed beloved longtime Revere landmark Bagel Bin back in late July 2019. Real bad situation. Local authority the Revere Journal called Bagel Bin "one of the most iconic restaurants" in town.
Bagel Bin owner Artan Vlladesi is one of Greater Boston's prolific and beloved but under-the-radar Albanian restaurateurs. Keka is hosting the fundraiser to aid his fellow Bostonian, his fellow restaurateur and his fellow Albanian immigrant.
The party will feature traditional Albanian dance, music and culture, plus plenty of Alba's signature upscale items, including prime steak, fresh seafood and Mediterranean specialities that have made it one of the region's most successful eateries for nearly 20 years.
Tickets cost $50 per person or $85 per couple. The event includes complementary buffet + cash bar with the opportunity to experience the richness of Albanian culture and the camaraderie of fellow food lovers.
The Albanian restaurant community is hugely influential around Greater Boston but probably not as well known as its influence. No less a Boston restaurant legend Anthony Athanas of Anthony's Pier 4 was an Albanian immigrant and helped Keka, among many other people, get their start in the industry in this country.
Bostonians helping Albanians; Albanians helping Bostonians; South Shore helping North Shore. Should be a great night.
