solas nua means ‘new light’ in irish. we are a 501(c)3 non-profit and the only organization in the united states dedicated exclusively to contemporary irish arts. our mission to bring the best new irish artistic talent to american audiences began in 2005 with the smash hit play 'disco pigs' by enda walsh. since then we have presented theater, music, visual arts, film, and literary events including the dc irish writers festival and irish book day.
solas nua in boston is our first regional chapter outside washington, dc, and has been recently featured in dig boston, on wgbh, and was the winner of the december 2014 opus affair punch bowl fund. on st. patrick's day, 2015, solas nua in boston hosted the first annual boston irish poem day, distributing one thousand contemporary irish poems on the streets of boston and somerville.
