Relieve writers’ block and become inspired to tell new stories using the classic art of cooking! From recipes to research, the scope of food writing is vibrant and unlimited. Instructor Jessica Spier leads this diverse course which will cover everything from recipe writing, food blogging, critique, memoir and interdisciplinary journalism in food, with special attention paid to developing voice and story within each genre. The class will span recipes and research from everything like Gastronomica and Saveur articles to creative food bloggers and essayists, as well as successful chef/authors such as Jamie Oliver and Ruth Reichl. Through writing exercises, students will have a chance to experiment with the different genres while cultivating their own unique voice.
