Singularity Black at the Museum of Fine Arts

NanoLab and Jason Chase invite you to experience Singularity Black at the MFA!

This is the first exhibition of works using Singularity Black in a museum setting, and is free and open to the public. Jason Chase, as the artist in residence at NanoLab, has been collaborating with the NanoLab team to create works that utilize this breathtakingly black material. Selected works on display will include:
2D Paintings & mixed media
-Big Black Mariah #1, #2, a pair made with Gravity Black Oil Paint & Singularity
-The 42, a piece employing Singularity on canvas
-MEMEME-mixed media, copper, wood, acrylic
-Singularity POP #1 oil on wood, stainless
3D static sculptures
-Black Iron Ursa (bear),

-Bear of Paradise, (debut)

3D kinetic sculptures

-The Blackest Little Black Dress, modeled by Corrie, aka Allison Hendricks, Art History Babes blogger.

The MFA joins HUBWeek in celebrating Boston’s position as a hub of creation, innovation, and revolution, and is honoring the collaboration between NanoLab and artist Jason Chase. This event will focus on artwork made using Singularity Black. It is the result of a NASA funded effort at NanoLab to develop intense black coatings for the insides of telescopes, and advanced optical instruments in space using nanotechnology. NanoLab then developed that material further to create an intense black that can be used on canvas, metals, plastics, etc., and brought on local artist Jason Chase to develop this unparalleled body of work. Jason and the NanoLab team will be on hand to discuss this material and other materials in development, and innovation in Boston.
