Shogi Night at the Fox Library

This one is a special event. Two professional shogi players – Akio Ishikawa and Masakazu Kondō – are visiting as ambassadors from Japan. They will probably play teaching handicap games. So, please come for a rare introduction to a professional!

Shogi (将棋) is Japanese chess.

This program welcomes shogi players of all levels (including beginner and novice players). Kids are are welcome! You will learn how each piece moves, basic opening, strategy, and how to checkmate. You will also discover many of the similarities and differences between (western) chess and shogi, but the basic idea is the same... to have fun!

One of notable rules is that once you capture a piece from the table then it's yours and you can use it as your piece! This makes the game crazy! Too much thinking.

It will be at the Fox Library downstairs in the community room on 6:00PM –9:00PM-ish.

Please email Shunsuke Yamaguchi to signup: [email protected]
