The nigun (or nign) is a wordless melody and spiritual practice introduced into Judaism with the spread of Hasidism in the 18th and early 19th century. Moving far beyond those roots in Central and Eastern Europe to the entire world, the nign gives us a chance to explore not only Jewish history but different ways of communicating between ourselves and God. Join renowned Yiddish singer (and CBE member) Anthony Russell in an interactive discussion of the words and music of the nign, the folklore behind it, how it has been used and how it can be used today.
A Selichot service will follow at 9 p.m.
