This is the story of an elderly Greek American woman whose family diary recounts the 1922 burning of the cosmopolitan city of Smyrna where Greeks, Turks, Jews, Armenians and Levantines once lived harmoniously together.

The film won 6 Hellenic Academy Awards including Best Cinematography as well as the Audience Award at both the Los Angeles Greek Film Festival and the San Francisco Greek Film Festival. The film stands as the most expensive Greek film production to date.

In English, Greek, Turkish and French with English subtitles, the movie is directed by Grigoris Karantinakis with an international cast including Mimi Denissi, Leonidas Kakouris, Burak Hakki, Katerina Geronikolou, Jane Lapotaire, Susan Hampshire, Rupert Graves, Christos Stergioglou and Daphne Alexander.

SMYRNA is a Tanweer (www.tanweer.com) production with Dionyssis Samiotis credited as producer and Joseph Samaan and Mimi Denissi as Executive Producers.
