scenes from the big picture takes place over the course of a hot summer’s day in an imagined area of present-day belfast. we see a day in the life of over twenty inhabitants of the city as their stories interweave and collide. in a tour de force of dramatic writing, an entire world is revealed in a couple of hours.
scenes from the big picture was originally produced in 2003 at the national theatre in london. it won the john whiting award, the evening standard’s charles wintour award for new playwriting and the meyer-whitworth award. this reading marks the boston premiere of this play.
