Urbano Project is delighted to announce it will host Salvador Jiménez-Flores’s exhibition, I Am Not Who You Think I Am from April 29th to June 10th at its Jamaica Plain gallery space. The opening reception will take place on Friday, April 29th from 6:30pm to 8:30pm as part of the ArtWeek Boston. This public event will also include an artist talk at 7:30pm.

Salvador’s solo exhibition will combine ceramics, installation, prints and video to explore a fusion of myth, history, religion, politics, and popular culture. The exhibition continues Salvador’s ongoing work of addressing social issues that affect his community and identity as a Mexican-born artist living in the United States. Beyond just creating awareness about relevant social issues, Salvador proposes actions through art.

“Urbano is proud to showcase the talent of one of our current resident teaching artists, Salvador Jiménez Flores.” says Urbano Executive Director, Stella Aguirre McGregor. “Salvador’s exhibition is very timely in its focus and relevance. His work is inspiring to artists, students, and greater Urbano community.

Salvador’s show, the first in a new series of exhibitions, is curated in support of Urbano’s creative theme, “The Commons | The Other.” Urbano’s artists, project facilitators, and youth work with community members to address themes of racial, ethnic, cultural and urban identity and representation embedded within our communities. The goal of Urbano’s place-based projects is to develop social / creative laboratories to increase inter-group understanding, tolerance and civic culture in the city of Boston.
