Lamplighter x Japas Cervejaria are excited to announce the release of our second collaboration beer, Sabi! Sabi is the second part of our two-beer series "Wabi Sabi," a Lager series brewed with rotating locally-foraged ingredients.

 

Stop by Lamplighter's 284 Broadway taproom in Cambridge on August 25th from 6 to 9 pm to celebrate the release of this special barrel-aged beer with us. We saved one keg of Wabi just for this occasion! For one night only, try both Wabi and Sabi on draft. Taste them side by side to experience the unique before and after of barrel aging. We'll also have fresh bottles of Sabi to take home.

 

About the collaboration:

Japas Cervejaria, located in Sao Paulo Brazil, is run by three Japanese-Brazilian women who celebrate the union between Brazil and Japan through their beer. They’re well-known for their Lager with Jasmine called “Matsurika”, they also brew with wasabi, ginger, yuzu and beyond. Our collaboration with the Japas team first came together in 2022, when we brewed “Wabi” - a Pale Lager with locally foraged ingredients. It was aged in oak barrels to become “Sabi," and a tradition was born.


This project is named for the Japanese concept of wabi-sabi, the beauty of imperfect things/the acceptance of transient beauty/the idea that aging and imperfection make things more beautiful. Like this beer!


You might remember our 2023 batch of “Wabi” from earlier this year - it features Sweet Annie (a fragrant wildflower), White Fir Needles, and bark from Wild Cherry trees. Prior to Wabi’s release in March, we diverted some of it to fill 4 American oak Chardonnay barrels housed at the CX taproom. It aged there for five months, taking on oak and white wine character, plus some woody tannins.
