Join the National Parks of Boston as we recreate this historic meeting as a FREE half-hour interactive program:

Under the 1850 Fugitive Slave Act, any runaway “property,” regardless of being in a free state, could be seized and returned to the South. Anthony Burns, a fugitive slave, was apprehended by slave catchers and authorities in Boston in 1854. Immediately following Burns’ arrest, Bostonians gathered at Faneuil Hall to discuss whether they would abide by this federal law or appeal to a higher law of freedom and liberty for all. The eyes of the nation were firmly fixed upon Boston.
