Rian Immigrant Center's Solas Awards Celebration

The Rian Immigrant Center is honoring Boston Celtics’ Enes Kanter, for his human rights activism, commitment to social justice, and philosophy of mutual respect. Also being honored is Dr. Sarah Kimball, Director of the Immigrant and Refugee Health Clinic at the Boston Medical Center, for her steadfast dedication to refugee and immigrant rights, social justice, and the holistic health of immigrant and refugee families, and José Nieto, for his incredible resilience, despite daunting personal, legal and systemic obstacles, in reuniting his family in the United States and his tireless pursuit of providing them a safe, stable life full of opportunity.

In receiving the award, Kanter says he is a big supporter of immigrant rights and that it is crucial that immigrants are protected and helped along the way.

Rian hosts their virtual Solas Awards Celebration tonight 6:30 to 7:30pm. Solas will be hosted by WGBH’s Jim Braude, award-winning broadcast journalist, and host of Greater Boston. The Solas Celebration will feature music by rising star Tolü Makay. Born in Nigeria and raised in Ireland, Tolü is a seasoned vocalist with influences that span the likes of Erykah Badu and Nina Simone to Amy Winehouse.

Solas is the Irish word for light. Each year, the Solas Awards Celebration honors people who have made significant contributions to the immigrant community or who have inspired our work.

The Rian Immigrant Center helps empower immigrants and refugees from around the world and Solas is the organization’s biggest fundraiser. Solas attendance is free and donations are encouraged.
