Returning Citizens: Not Your Average Client

This interactive training will deepen your awareness of the unique needs of clients returning from extended periods of incarceration and will give you the insights and techniques necessary to increase positive treatment outcomes for these returning citizens. When released from custody, individuals not only face a higher chance of relapse and/or overdose, but often struggle with co-occurring mental health issues, chronic medical conditions, life-long criminality, and in many cases, trauma. This course will be led by Spectrum’s Mass. State Director of Correctional Services, Earl Warren, MBA, LADC1.

Participants will:
• Learn effective screening and assessment techniques for program placement
• Learn treatment approaches for returning citizens with CODs
• Understand more fully the issues of treating returning citizens under community supervision

The schedule is as follows:
• 8:30am – Registration & Continental Breakfast
• 9am to 12pm – Training
• 12pm to 1pm – Lunch (on your own)
• 1pm to 4pm – Training

Continuing Education Hours approved for:
• MA Licensed Social Workers
• MA Licensed Mental Health Counselors and NBCC Certified Counselors
• MA Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselors and NAADAC Certified Counselors
• MA Social Workers and National Association of Social Workers

Meet the Teacher:
Earl Warren, MBA, LADC
Mr. Warren is an experienced administrator and clinician in the field of addictive disorders. For the past ten years he has overseen all of Spectrum’s correctional treatment programs in Massachusetts, including in-prison treatment, offender reentry programs and segregated treatment programs for high-risk offenders. Mr. Warren serves on the American Correctional Association’s Mental Health Committee and is a frequent presenter at ACA conferences.
