The award-winning Radius Ensemble launches its twenty-first concert season on September 28 with EVENTIDE.
GOMPPER – Kuta Muela III for flute, bassoon, piano and percussion
Featuring Huya Ania, a film by Sheilah Britton
LARSON – Be Still My Soul for solo flute
KOSHINSKI – Get it! for bassoon and percussion
MOZART – Serenade in C minor, K.388
Weaving together ancient and modern, David Gompper’s Kuta Muela, “old stick,” is based on a Native American melody and performed with a companion film, Huya Ania (The Wilderness World). The evening air in Vienna often carried “serenades” of woodwinds on the breeze. A popular genre, Mozart wrote more than a dozen during his lifetime. Here, a rare opportunity to hear one that isn’t Eine kleine Nachtmusik, in a minor key at that! Also on this program, Rhonda Larson’s Be Still My Soul, which finds its roots in a famous melody by Jean Sibelius. Percussionist Gary Koshinski's playful Get It! for bassoon and percussion kicks off the concert and the season.
