Few sounds are as beautiful to the human ear as a cappella (unaccompanied) choral music. This was the choral ideal, established and animated by Renaissance composers, yet many composers of the 21st century seek to re-affirm this sonic ideal and bring it to contemporary audiences. Each of these two eras, separated by four hundred years, is distinguished by a flowering of new choral music. This March 2 or 4, come hear the Oriana Consort sing six couplings of related choral works from both eras, including works by Palestrina, Byrd, and Morley paired with the works of celebrated composers of today: Ola Gjeilo, Eric Whitacre, Abbie Betinis, and more.
