Like all of us, poets are citizens navigating a time of great political upheaval, and drawing on the tools of their trade to create a more just and equitable world. With the presidential election days away, take some time to join us for an energizing discussion with critically acclaimed author Marge Piercy to reflect on how poetry can both shift people’s thinking and remind us that real change comes from the hard and never-ending work of political advocacy. Piercy will read from her some of her works and talk with Charles Coe, a well known Boston-based poet, writer, musician and Revolutionary Spaces board member.

Marge Piercy’s 20th poetry book On The Way Out, Turn Off The Light is now out from Knopf, publishers of her best-seller Made in Detroit. Piercy has been active in anti-war, feminist and ecological causes since her early involvement in the civil rights movement. Praised as one of the few American writers who are accomplished poets as well as novelists, she has written in a wide array of genres including short stories (The Cost of Lunch, Etc.), essays and poems (My Life, My Body), memoir (Sleeping With Cats) and novels (Woman on the Edge of Time, He, She and It, Braided Lives and Sex Wars). Piercy has given readings, speeches and workshops in over 500 venues around the world, and her work has been translated into 23 languages.

Charles Coe is a poet, prose writer, teacher of writing and a musician. He has written two books of poetry (All Sins Forgiven: Poems For My Parents and Picnic On The Moon) as well as a novella (Spin Cycles). Peach Pie, a short film based on his poem “Fortress” has been shown in film festivals nationwide. Coe is currently an Artist Fellow for
