Celebrate local Hip-Hop history and community in honor of Hip-Hop history month with a panel discussion from the Massachusetts Hip-Hop Archive (MHHA) at the University of Massachusetts Boston. The MHHA will share its recent work and collection activity. Academic and community panels will discuss the ongoing need for bridging the gaps among institutions and the community, Hip-Hop elements, generations, locations, history and culture.

Academic panelists are J. Keith Motley (moderator), Joseph Cooper, Murray Forman, and Aminah Pilgrim.

Community panelists are Born Bi-Kim (moderator), Cindy Diggs, Bernard “Smok N Strok” Johnson Jr., and Akrobatik.

To attend, please register on this Eventbrite link. Registration is encouraged, but due to the ample seating available in the Rabb Lecture Hall, walk-ins are also welcome.

Selected images and stories collected from Boston Hip-Hop community members at the Show ‘Em Whatcha Got Mass. Memories Road Show event in May 2018 will be on display. All attendees are invited to add to this digital collection by sharing their Hip-Hop artifacts and stories. Archive staff and volunteers will be on hand to scan items and videotape interviews. Bring three photos, flyers, or other paper items to be scanned and add your story to the archive.

This program is presented in partnership by the Boston Public Library and the Massachusetts Hip-Hop Archive and the Mass. Memories Road Show in the University Archives and Special Collections department, Joseph P. Healey Library, UMass Boston.
