Alexander Pfeifer, trumpet, and Frank Zimpel, organ, both from Leipzig, Germany, present a concert including music by J S Bach, Handel, Sibelius and Philip Glass.
Pfeifer first studied violin and received trumpet lessons from the age of 12. He attended the Music School J. S. Bach in Leipzig and studied trumpet with Matthias Schmutzler at the Dresden Academy of Music from 2002 to 2006. From 2003 to 2006 he was a substitute at the Dresden Staatskapelle, and from 2005 to 2006, he was a guest solo trumpeter with the orchestra of the Landesbühnen Sachsen. He currently works in the Saxon State Opera (Semperoper) Dresden with a temporary contract, and he also teaches at the Music School J. S. Bach in Leipzig.
Zimpel's early musical training was in Köthen. He studied Protestant church music in Leipzig, with Prof. Arvid Gast and university music director Wolfgang Unger, among others. In 1996 he was a finalist in the Xth International Bach Competition in Leipzig. From 1999-2000 he completed postgraduate study in organ at the University of Music in Vienna. From 2002 to 2012 he was a lecturer at the Evangelical University of Church Music in Halle. Currently he is a Kantor in Markkleeberg-West near Leipzig and a lecturer at the Leipzig Academy of Music.
