Arch Gallery Boston, the newest gallery and event hall in the Allston scene is proud to present Tinsley Hammond’s Projection Series. This will be Tinsley Hammond’s first solo show in Massachusetts, featuring her new media light boxes. Vivacious and glowing, the space will be illuminated by each art piece. Every wall features boxes diverse in meaning, intensity, and color. The images in the light boxes are for free association interpretation. Tinsley paints with projected light images of tulips and luxury symbols. Traditional images of power morch into intricate compositions. that demands full attention to fully convey their transformation.
The Projection Series began as a visual investigation of the historical phenomenon known as Tulip Mania. During the Dutch Golden Age in the 17th Century the apex of speculation drove people to trade their homes for a single flower. This was the world’s first example of an economic bubble, all for something small, fleeting, and beautiful. Tinsley continues to incorporate details of opulence and decadence, degradation, and elements of stress that mark the rise and fall of culture. “Vanity” meets the digital in The Projection Series through the exploration of impermanence and the fragility of worth and data.
Born in Alaska, Tinsley Hammond was raised in Texas and received her bachelor of fine arts degree from the school of the Art Institute of Chicago. Tinsley has been featured in shows in New York, Boston, Houston, Chicago, and Lecce, Italy. She recently received her MFA from the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston and Tufts University.
The Projection Series will have an opening reception in ARCH Gallery October 25th and a closing reception November 21st, both from 6pm to 9pm. The after party will be held at Shanghai Social Club a few blocks away.
