Featuring a reading by Harry Dodge
Harry Dodge: Works of Love features a selection of recent sculptures, drawings, and videos that revel as much in theoretical ideas about a posthuman future as they do in the ecstasy of the workaday present. Dodge's riotous, precarious (and often funny) creations suggest unwieldiness—states fluctuating between analog and digital, alien and earthly, material and virtual, me and you.
These "works of love" reflect Dodge's evolving interest in the fast-moving, ethically charged field of robotics and machine intelligence as it interweaves with questions of desirous matter and intersubjectivity, or what French poet and philosopher Édouard Glissant called "consenting not to be a single being."
A 2017 Guggenheim Fellow, Harry Dodge is permanent faculty of the School of Art at California Institute of the Arts, Program in Art. Harry Dodge: Works of Love at Tufts University Art Galleries is accompanied by a brochure featuring a new text by Fred Moten and an interview with Dodge and Dina Deitsch, Tufts University Art Galleries Director and Chief Curator. The exhibition was first presented in part at JOAN, Los Angeles, in 2018.
About the Artist:
Since the early 1990s, Dodge has been a pioneer in video, sculpture, drawing, performance, screenwriting, film, and DIY community-making. Dodge holds an MFA from Milton Avery School of the Arts at Bard College and is permanent faculty of the School of Art at California Institute of the Arts, Program in Art.
