Open Art Lab Presents
How To Capture A Dragon In 10 Steps
with Ricky Orng
(Poetry Workshop)

In this workshop, you will explore unique approaches and techniques to bear-trapping a dragon (no animals will be hurt during this training, just mythical creatures - and when I say mythical creatures, I mean you). Sometimes the dragons are ourselves. Our stories maybe the most challenging thing to harness and release. We will draw inspiration through film, art & poetry to practice creative writing and personal storytelling. Each poet will leave with a strong understanding of spoken word poetry, original poems, and tools and resources to carry on dragon hunting. The workshop will end with a half-hour for an open mic from our attendees and instructor.

Open to the community and persons at any writing level. We strive to cultivate a safe, brave and progressive space for our workshop attendees. We are offering 25 limited spots for this workshop. RSVP here | https://emw-openartlab-03.splashthat.com/#tickets

// ABOUT THE ARTIST //
Ricky Orng is a Cambodian-American performer and educator based in Lowell, Massachusetts' Little Cambodian. He is the Director of Lowell's Youth Spoken Word organization, FreeVerse! - and coaches their slam team who were on final stage in Louder Than A Bomb Massachusetts 2012, 2013, Brave New Voices 2011, San Francisco; and most recently the 2014 Louder Than A Bomb Massachusetts Champions. Ricky hosted the first Asian American & Pacific Islander Poetry Reading at National Poetry Slam in Boston in 2013.

He currently hosts the bi-monthly Untitled Open Mic, that was first inducted in 2008 by Ryk McIntry. His works has been featured on Angry Asian Man, Absolutely Fobulous, Lowell's Artist Anthology, Young Angel Midnight; and Cambodia's first bi-lingual fashion publication, F-Magazine.

His writing reflects on being 2nd generation American, dealing with Asian stereotypes, the consequences of The Khmer Rouge and living in America's second largest Cambodian populated city. Ricky is a Gemini, loves Autumn, bikes occasionally and photographs people for fun. His works can be found on his poetry blog.
