About the Artist

After studying illustration and painting at the MFA School and Massachusetts College of Art, Kristin worked as a commercial artist for 15 years. During that period she did a lot of greeting card and stationary design work. She was nominated for the prestigious Louie award for card design, and many of her designs were top sellers for the year. A number of years ago she decided she wanted to branch out from illustration and paint what inspired her rather than for an assignment. She had recently discovered gouache, an opaque water based medium and I immediately loved it’s brilliant, velvety colors. It took her in new directions with graphic designs and strong complementary color. The medium allowed her to explore abstraction in a representational context.

In the past five years she has become a signature member of the National Watercolor Society, the New England Watercolor Society and the Rhode Island Watercolor Society. She has received numerous awards at these shows. She has also exhibited at the prestigious Salmagundi Club in NYC in the American Watercolor Society Show and the traveling show of the National Watercolor Society. As an artist member of the Copley Society she exhibits there frequently and show a show coming up in the fall of 2017.

More recently she began painting in acrylics so that she could increase the scale of her work. For her, it has been an interesting journey from 5” x 7” card designs to 30” x 40” paintings on canvas! Currently she is working in her space at the Fountain Street Studios in Framingham, MA. The space has Open Studios twice a year where the working spaces are open to the public. The next exhibition is April 29 -30 at 59 Fountain St, Framingham, MA.
