Her music straddles the boundaries of improvisation, new music and creative-jazz. This new quartet consists of New York City-based musicians who have all made a huge impact as composers, performers and improvisers in their own right. It’s a cast of innovative performers who are specialized in experimental music and constantly look for fresh avenues to create truly new music.


Ingrid Laubrock: Downbeat (Jazz) Annual Critics Poll Rising Star Soprano Saxophone (2015). Rising Star Tenor Saxophone (2018) and Herb Alpert/Ragdale Prize in Composition 2019. Her orchestral piece “Vogelfrei” was named one of the 25 best classical tracks of 2018 by the NY Times.


“There are not many composers who are ready to accommodate, codify or even conduct free and often chaotic improvisations within their thoroughly-notated and disciplined work. And there are very few improvisers-composers who have the far-reaching and cross-border vision that enable a unique and seamless blend of composition, conduction and improvisation”. Originally from Germany (b: 1970) Ingrid Laubrock is based in Brooklyn since 2009. Laubrock's main projects as a leader are Anti-House, Sleepthief, Ingrid Laubrock Septet and Ubatuba. Collaborations include Paradoxical Frog, Ingrid Laubrock/Tom Rainey Duo and Crump/Smythe/Laubrock. She is a member of Anthony Braxton's Falling River Music Quartet, Nonet and 12+1tet, Tom Rainey Trio and Obbligato, Mary Halvorson Septet, Kris’ Davis Quintet, Nate Wooley’s Battle Pieces and Luc Ex’ Assemblée. She was one of the featured soloists in Anthony Braxton’s opera Trillium J.


This exciting freewheeling, free-playing, ear-stretching, mind-expanding set from composer / guitarist Brandon Seabrook strives for new ground in music—a hybrid of modern classical idioms and experimental jazz. All About Jazz “Convulsionaries” release.
Seabrook Power Plant, the nuclear trio donned “a manic clusterfuck of merciless banjo torture” by the Village Voice, is Brandon’s brainchild, blending the brutal energy of punk-rock with the intricate execution of through-composed avant jazz. The band has released two albums to much critical acclaim. Time Out New York praised the band’s eponymous debut as “not only one of the most baffling experimental releases of the year it's also one of the best.”
(b1984) Brandon is a New York guitarist, banjoist and composer who has established himself as one of the most unique and volatile guitarists of his generation. His work focuses on the intersections between improvisation and structure through fragmented and rapidly changing soundscapes, angular composition, and a dynamic range that can change in a joyous nanosecond. He has released six albums as a leader covering everything from pulverizing art-metal to chamber jazz
Seabrook honed his guitar skills at the New England Conservatory in Boston. He has since performed extensively in North and South America, Mexico and Europe, as a solo artist, bandleader and collaborator. He has been summoned by the likes of Anthony Braxton, Nels Cline, The Flying Luttenbachers and Joey Arias for his idiosyncratic blend of spiked improvisation and severe technical facility.


Michael Formanek (b. 1958) is an acclaimed bassist, composer and band-leader, who has toured with Tony Williams, Joe Henderson, Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Fred Hersch and Freddie Hubbard. The bassist has played a pivotal role on New York’s creative jazz scene since the ’90s when he led his own quintet and played in Tim Berne’s barnstorming quartet Bloodcount. He is currently a member of Thumbscrew with guitarist Mary Halvorson and drummer Tomas Fujiwara. Formanek’s Elusion Quartet features Tony Malaby, Kris Davis and Ches Smith.

One marker of bassist Michael Formanek's creativity and versatility is the range of distinguished musicians of several generations he's worked with. While still a teenager in the 1970s he toured with drummer Tony Williams and saxophonist Joe Henderson; starting in the '80s he played long stints with Stan Getz, Gerry Mulligan, Fred Hersch and Freddie Hubbard. (As a callback to those days, Formanek recorded with hardbop pianist Freddie Redd in 2013)


Tom Rainey is one of the most creative, in demand drummers in Jazz. He has recorded with: John Abercrombie, Anthony Braxton, Nels Cline, Albert Mangelsdorff, Kris Davis, and many others. Since 2010, Rainey has released six recordings as a leader, 4 with his trio featuring Laubrock and Mary Halvorson and two with his Quintet.
Thomas "Tom" Rainey (born 1957, Santa Barbara,[1] California). After attending Berklee College of Music he moved to New York in 1979.[1] He has also played with jazz saxophonist and composer Tim Berne,[2] and also with Nels Cline, Fred Hersch, Tony Malaby, Tom Varner, Drew Gress, Kenny Werner, Mark Helias, and so many more. A prolific session musician, he has appeared on close to 80 recordings over a career spanning over 25 years.
He released his own first album, Pool School (Clean Feed), in 2010.[3]

The Creative Music Series (CMS) was established in January, 2015, to showcase the work of adventurous jazz musicians from out-of-state, presenting them in intimate venues in the Cambridge/Somerville area. My endeavor was a reaction to the apparent lack of invitations being extended to accomplished, new talent and even unknown musicians to the Boston area. CMS has now begun to zero in on Boston based musicians who are creating their own projects with these out-of-town guests, and taking these musical risks to find an expression and gain a wider appreciation. https://www.facebook.com/CMS.in.Cambridge.MA/.
