The Newton Theatre Company performs Aeschylus’ Agamemnon in three outdoor locations. Fans of Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey, as well as newcomers to Greek Mythology, will be riveted as the thousand-years-old story of the aftermath of the Trojan War is told again - this time through Clytemnestra’s eyes. Ten years have passed since Agamemnon has sacrificed his oldest daughter in order to appease the gods and let the Greek army sail to Troy. And for ten years Agamemnon’s wife, Clytemnestra, sits at home in Argos, waiting for the day her husband will return from the war so she can exact revenge.
“It’s breath-taking watching this powerful story unfold in an outdoor space at twilight,” says director Melissa Bernstein. “As the sun begins to set, both the emotional and physical worlds of the play move towards a gathering darkness. Nature is helping us tell the story!”
