New England Conservatory (NEC) presents three operas in ten performances over four days, April 21-24, 2022. Jack Perla’s moving opera, “An American Dream,” about the displacement of Japanese-Americans during WWII; Purcell’s haunting tale of love and sacrifice, “Dido and Aeneas;” and Ravel’s magical and joyous opera “L'Enfante et les Sortilèges” are directed by Faculty Stage Director Joshua Major and his father, Leon Major. Conducted by Robert Tweten, the triple-bill series of one-act operas features dynamic young artists from NEC’s Graduate Opera program.

“An American Dream”
Set during World War II, this moving American opera explores the lives of two women: a Japanese American forced into internment, and a German-Jewish immigrant preoccupied by those she left behind.
