The First Baptist Church of Medford is delighted to present:
Francesca McNeeley (cello) & Lana Suran (piano)

Join us for an intimate, musical soirée of European masterpieces for the cello and piano.

The recital will feature works by Debussy, Hindemith, Tchaikovsky & Beethoven.

Since her debut at Gothenburg Concert House at the age of eight, Lana Suran has appeared as soloist and with numerous orchestras in Sweden and abroad. She has performed in Alice Tully hall, Jordan Hall, Symphony Hall, Louisiana Museum of Fine Arts, Stockholm Concert House, Berwaldhallen, Helsingborg Concert House, Concert Noble, CNSMDP, Splendor Amsterdam, Musikgebouw, Petruzzelli Opera House, Mozarteum, Casa da Música, Grand Hall of Tbilisi State Conservatory, and all major concert halls in Sweden. Her first CD was released in 2017 and includes solo works by Rachmaninoff & Shostakovich Piano Concerto No.2 with Dalasinfoniettan & Daniel Blendulf.

Her 2017-2018 season highlights include debut recital and chamber music appearances for the Festival Internacional de Música de Esmeraldas (EC), Cercle Suédois (FR), Mannes Sounds Festival (NY) and Scandinavia House (NY) and concerto apperances with KMH Symphony Orchestra in Stockholm. This season also marks her debut recital in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall.

Lana currently lives in New York and is an Artist Diploma candidate studying with Ursula Oppens at Mannes School of Music. She holds degrees from previous studies at New England Conservatory of Music in Boston where she studied with Alexander Korsantia from 2011-2016. She has received additional mentorship from Hung Kuan Chen, Tema Blackstone, Menahem Pressler, Jeremy Denk and Stefan Bojsten.

Cellist Francesca McNeeley is an avid chamber musician, and a fierce advocate for contemporary music. As a New Fromm Player at the Tanglewood Music Center, she premiered quartets by John Harbison, Mark Neikrug, and Kui Dong, and gave the “excellent” American premiere of Joseph Phibb’s first string quartet (Boston Globe). She has been fortunate to collaborate onstage with a range of powerhouse artists, including Dawn Upshaw, Stephanie Blythe, Tony Arnold, Leone Buyse and Jason Treuting. As a chamber musician she’s had the honor of learning from some of the great quartets and coaches of our time, including Kim Kashkashian, Lucy Chapman, the Cleveland Quartet, Concord Quartet, Juilliard Quartet, and Brentano Quartet.

She has been featured internationally and nationally on numerous series and festivals, including Houston’s Musiqa, Boston’s Callithumpian Consort, the Klangspuren Schwaz Festival in Austria, the Festival Jong Talent Schiermonnikoog in the Netherlands, and the Archipelago Collective in Washington state. She has earned fellowships and prizes from the Tanglewood Music Center, the Music Academy of the West, and the Toronto Summer Music Festival, and is also on the management roster of Seven-Eight Artists.

Ms. McNeeley completed her B.A. at Princeton University, graduating magna cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa, and receiving the Isidore and Helen Sacks Memorial Prize. She completed her master’s degree with Norman Fischer at Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music. She recently completed a graduate diploma at the New England Conservatory in the studio of Yeesun Kim. Other mentors have included Tom Kraines and Astrid Schween.

Ms. McNeeley was recently appointed as a resident musician with musiConnects, bringing her enthusiasm for chamber music and teaching artistry to the greater Boston area.
