Join us for a day of workshops and the return of Eclipse! K.Lani (she/her) will be hosting a 3-part micro fusion workshop (all classes will be ambidancetrousโ€”come with any dance experience, or no dance experience at all!). Then, you can practice both your micro and macro dancing at Eclipse at our usual location, Q Ballroom!


Micro is a subgenre of partner Fusion dance. Where Fusion focuses on adapting our movements to each partner and song, Micro dance is about being present and appreciating each moment with our partner. Taking advantage of primarily less, and smaller movements, Micro is the art of mindfulness in motion. It requires no previous dance or partner experience, just a willingness to hug out a song.

1-1:30pm Check-in and warmup

1:30-2:45pm Workshop 1: Micro Hugs

Do you ever find hugging to be awkward, even when itโ€™s someone youโ€™re close to? The foundation of good micro is the same foundation as a good hug.ย ย 

Good hugs start with confident posture and how you connect to another body. Learn to initiate and sustain touch with others, adapting your hugs to any body. Add some music and weโ€™ll turn those super comfy hugs, into dynamic dancing hugs!ย 

3pm-4:15pm Workshop 2: Micro Moves

So micro dance is about moving smaller and doing less. But how do I actually dance it? Just because less is more doesnโ€™t mean you donโ€™t still have tons of options for how to move your body! Come play with body isolations and explore the many planes you can move them on. Letโ€™s maximize your micro options!

4:30pm-5:45pm Workshop 3: Micro Harmonies

We say partner dance is a conversation, well a unique thing in Micro is you donโ€™t need the lead/follow dynamic.ย With small movements you can actually whisper over top of each other.ย Instead of talking, it becomes more like singing together, interweaving your movements!ย You can sing the same part, sing harmonies, or sing a different part entirely. Come learn how to tune your movements and responses to create beautiful harmonies together.
