Just in time for Mother’s Day and the arrival of pie season, meet Cake Life Bake Shop’s head pastry chef Raina Beresniewicz. She’ll teach us how to make the perfect crust for your quiches, fruit pies, hand pies and all those yummy Mother’s Day brunch treats. You’ll learn how to master the proper techniques for a reliable, versatile, flaky crust for both sweet and savory applications.

Learn what type of dough are best for different applications, how to properly bake and handle a variety of pies once they are off into the oven. You’ll get hands-on making pie dough and preparing savory and sweet fillings. We’ll get the pro tips for troubleshooting at home. Everyone will get to taste some pies from one of our city’s most talented bakers and get recipes and a sample to take home.

Raina Beresniewicz is Head Pastry Chef at Cake Life Bake Shop in Fishtown, voted best new bakery by Philadelphia Magazine. She’s dedicated to quality seasonal ingredients and gets the most satisfaction out of teaching and passing on the knowledge she has gained working for various pastry chefs. Raina works with Cooks Who Care and Fresh Artists to encourage a passion and artisanship in pastry arts in others. She has worked at Flying Monkey Bakery, and Metropolitan Bakery and has been featured on the Food Network!
