Now, you can take an in-person tour of the mansion and grounds at Gore Place. This 1806 mansion is one of the finest examples of early 19th-century architecture in New England. The surrounding 50-acre estate includes walking paths, a pasture with grazing sheep, a 1793 coach house and stable, and an 1835 farmer’s cottage.

Mansion Tours include a walk around the grounds and a viewing of the first-floor with a spiral staircase, oval salon, library, and great hall. The period furnishings include the largest collection of Boston-built furniture in a house museum. You’ll learn about Christopher and Rebecca Gore and Robert Roberts, the man who served as head butler and who wrote The House Servant’s Directory, a guide to running a home.

Also available, a Walking Tour of the Grounds. This tour is entirely out-of-doors and covers more of the estate, focusing on the agrarian landscape of what was once a 250-acre country seat and farm. You’ll learn about the people who made this large operation work. Capacity is limited for both the Mansion Tour and the Walking Tour.

Mansion Tours are available Saturdays at 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. and Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 11 a.m. Walking Tours are available Saturdays at 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Advance tickets are required. To order, visit goreplace.org.
