Boston, MA - Boston Opera Collaborative (BOC) opens its 9th season with Les Lettres de Werther, a re-envisioning of the opera by Jules Massenet, with added text from Goethe’s novel. Tickets are now available! There are only 120 seats are for each performance, so reserve yours NOW!


Les Lettres de Werther, a re-working of one of the most popular French works in the opera canon, features the four principal characters as Charlotte remembers her stormy relationship with Werther, the young poet whose love she is unable to return. The production is the first under the direction of BOC’s new artistic directors, Patricia-Maria Weinmann and Greg Smucker.


“This is a very up-close-and-personal production,” said Weinmann and Smucker. “We’ve stripped away the less central elements in the opera to focus on the love triangles between Werther, Charlotte, her husband Albert and her sister Sophie. Most of our audience will never have experienced Werther in such an immediate way.”

This intimate production of the opera will be performed in an equally intimate setting –Pickman Hall at Longy School of Music of Bard College. The hall will seat only 120 patrons per performance.
