When Frederick the Great moved to Berlin in 1740 to ascend the throne of Prussia, he carefully selected a retinue of court musicians, among the best in Germany at the time, to form what would later become known as the Berlin School. Les Bostonades welcomes Parisian oboist Christopher Palameta as a guest artist for this fascinating concert of music by Johann Gottlieb Janitsch, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Christoph Schaffrath, and Johann Gottlieb Graun. The works on this program paint a vivid portrait of the Berlin School’s unique style, full of surprising harmonic shifts, subito dynamics, dramatic pauses, and more.
